For years Dutch saxophonist Yuri Honing has been considered one of the main representatives of European jazz, a/o as a result of his successful Yuri Honing Trio. While touring in more than 40 countries and making records - of which Star Tracks (1996) caused his international breakthrough - Honing built a unique personal style, based on jazz, pop and non-western musical traditions. Yuri Honing played and/or recorded with artists such as Pat Metheny, Paul Bley, Charlie Haden and Misha Mengelberg. Highlight was the Edison (Dutch Grammy) awarded album Seven (2001), feat. a/o pianist Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motian. Recently he recorded with Vince Mendoza & the Metropole Orchestra ànd he formed a brand new electric group called Yuri Honing Wired Paradise, feat. a/o guitarist Frank Möbus.

Yuri Honing Wired Paradise

With Yuri Honing Wired Paradise saxophonist Yuri Honing sets a new goal in his yet impressive career. Two important influences determine the new sound: harmony and electricity, presented by guitarist Frank Möbus. This remarkable German musician has gained a cult status in the international music scene, also thanks to the accomplishments of his trio Der Rote Bereich. Tony Overwater has added ‘electricity’ to his art as well. Bass guitar, plugs, cords and pedals introduce new forms of expression on top of the passionate and intense playing of this acclaimed bass player. Joost Lijbaart, friend through thick and thin, is Honing’s indispensable rhythmic alter ego. With his innovative playing Lijbaart is the driving power on the one hand, and on the other hand the ever-alert sparring partner.

Honing joins forces with Vince Mendoza
Symphonic

In 2005 Yuri Honing was invited for a recording session with the famous Dutch Metropole Orchestra, led by the renowned conductor and composer Vince Mendoza. The recording was initially meant for a one-time broadcast only on Dutch radio (NPS). But the result turned out to be so beautiful, all parties decided immediately that the music, consisting of originals by Mendoza and Honing, should be released on CD for everyone to enjoy. On April 7, 2006, the album Symphonic will be officially presented at a special concert at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam.
