The making of Yuri Honing Wired Paradise
A unique electric rock group
For years saxophonist Yuri Honing has been considered one of the main representatives of European jazz, a/o as a result of his Yuri Honing Trio with Tony Overwater (bass) and Joost Lijbaart (drums).
In 2005-2006 Yuri Honing starts a new group: Yuri Honing Wired Paradise and he sets a new goal in his yet impressive career. Two important influences determine the new sound: harmony and electricity, presented by guitarist Frank Möbus. This remarkable German guitarist has gained a cult status in the international music scene, also thanks to the accomplishments of his trio Der Rote Bereich. At the instance of Yuri Honing, Tony Overwater has added ‘electricity’ to his art as well. Bass guitar, many plugs, cords and pedals introduce new forms of expression on top of the passionate and intense playing of this acclaimed bass player. Joost Lijbaart, friend through thick and thin, is Yuri Honing’s indispensable rhythmic alter ego. With his innovative playing Lijbaart is the driving power on the one hand, and on the other hand the ever-alert sparring partner.
In the summer of 2006 a second guitarist, Paul Jan Bakker (Dutch rock acts: Kane, Anouk and Seven) joined the group, providing the final touch to Yuri Honing Wired Paradise. In summer 2007 the second CD will be released. |
